From CBC.ca:
While the Games may have left the country on a bit of a high, let's also not lose sight of where we've come from, suggested Steve Yzerman, executive director of the men's gold-medal-winning hockey team.
"Canada has shown the world that we are pretty good people. I hope we remain humble and gracious," he said after Sunday's game.
"Let's not get cocky. Let's not get overconfident. It's hard to win."
I really liked this quote, mostly because of the last line. When anyone starts to get really good at something they tend to lose sight of where they came from and how they got there. They also get cocky and do get overconfident. We see it in a lot of sports. The sophmore slump in hockey is the perfect example. And the same can often be said in triathlon. Often an athlete has a breakthrough race but then follows up with a dismal set of races in the follow-up season. He summed it up best by saying it is hard to win. I would add, it is usually harder to win again.
